It happened somehow…

Image
Why do you keep praying for a miracle, and after the miracle occurs, behave as though nothing unusual happened? Why do you ask God to do it when you can’t even believe that He is the one who did it, even after He does it? Why do you strive to explain a supernatural event in logical terms and attempt to normalise it?     When you recall a past miracle and, instead of giving God the credit, say, “It happened somehow,” your faith does not grow. If you had simply acknowledged that God did it, you would have been confident that He can very well do it again.   Sometimes, the logical side of one’s self refuses to accept miracles and finds ways to comprehend the incomprehensible, mysterious help rendered by God. God caused the east wind to separate the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21). This doesn’t make it normal or a usual occurrence. It is not merely a coincidence that the wind blew the same night that the Israelites were caught between Pharaoh and the Red Sea. God ma...

The Food-Delivery Guy Who Saved a Country

Image
He was walking towards the battlefield. You may wonder why then, was he carrying roasted grain, bread and cheese.  It is because he was going there not as a warrior to fight the enemy but to deliver food to his elder brothers who were military men. He was the youngest and the least respected son in their home. He was anointed by the prophet Samuel to be the next king a few days back. If God had appointed him to lead the nation, why wasn’t he even a soldier like his elder brothers?  The work allotted to him was subpar and menial, compared to the relatively superior responsibility of fighting for the country.           As he walked along with the excitement of watching the battle, a loud voice, challenging for a duel, interrupted his thoughts. He wondered whether a lion or bear had wandered away from the forest into the battlefield. The voice exhibited absolute confidence in not just winning ...

If God doesn't help...

If God doesn't help... Having a Plan B may not be wrong. But it can interfere with one's relationship with God if God is Plan A.  Hello! I am King Saul! I am the first king of Israel. While I felt shy and awkward initially when prophet Samuel anointed me as king, now I am perfectly confident that I have the wisdom, skills, and courage to lead the people and fight their battles. I have a lot of plan Bs.  If God does not help me, I can do it myself.  Samuel, the prophet, had asked me to wait until he came. But, when I saw the Philistines around me and the men in my army scattering away, I decided to help myself and make the offering without waiting anymore for Samuel. But when he came, he said my kingdom would not continue.  If God does not speak to me, I will ask Satan.  I got used to doing things my way and helping myself. It appears simple and more sophisticated, with the prophet not bothering me with his conditions and rules on everything. Do you know t...

To Believe or Not to Believe...

To Believe or Not to Believe...       She believed all that her parents told her. They told her that God created the heavens and the earth, and she believed. They told her God parted the Red Sea, and she believed. They advised her to read the Bible every day, and she faithfully obliged.      Once  in a while, she encountered thoughts in her mind that questioned the truth of it all. Does God really exist? What if all these Bible stories are simply stories? How can I be sure God exists when I have never seen him, heard from him, or felt his touch? Like she was taught by her parents, she prayed daily. Some prayers were answered, and some were not. What if the answered prayers (or so she thought) were mere coincidences? She did not have answers to these questions and sincerely wished to be an obedient child and a devout Christian. So she brushed these thoughts aside and focussed on her work.       During holidays, these th...
